We know that the early years of a child’s life are crucial to their development and our practitioners work to ensure that every child gets the best possible start in their education at our nursery.

Curriculum for Excellence

At Happitots Nursery South Lanarkshire College we promote play-based education and adhere to national guidance from the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE). The CfE is split into 4 Capacities which are:

  • Successful Learners
  • Confident Individuals
  • Effective Contributors
  • Responsible Citizens

Additionally, the CfE highlights 3 Core Areas for Learning:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Health & Wellbeing

Learning Experiences planned by our staff integrate the CfE Capacities and Core Areas for Learning, enabling all children to maximise their potential. We are supported in this through partnership working with our local council.

Additionally, we take guidance from the following resources:

Child-Led Learning

Responsive planning is key to the learning opportunities and experiences we offer children at Happitots Nursery South Lanarkshire College. Our nursery staff facilitate learning activities based on topics chosen by the children in our care. Children are encouraged to share their interests through mind maps and group discussions.

We believe there's nothing we teach indoors that can't be taught outdoors, and make use of our fantastic outdoor space to support learning through play.

Together We Can Curriculum

Together We Can is a guidance for early years staff working with our youngest children under the age of three. It has been developed in line with the values, purpose and principles of the Curriculum for Excellence.

The curriculum focuses on 5 areas of development:

  • health and well being
  • emotional spiritual well being
  • social development
  • physical development, and
  • cognitive development.

Together We Can recognises the important role parents and carers have in their child's development and aims to build on previous experiences children have either had at home and /or in other pre-school settings through partnership working with early years professionals. We place strong emphasis on the involvement of children, parents, caregivers and staff in the planning cycle and ensure that our nursery is set up to invite children to explore, investigate, be creative and use their imaginations.
